Bodan to Black Belt Checklist

Bodan to Bodahn 1st Star

  1. Basics: Ability to perform all basic, intermediate and advanced techniques to their level.
  2. Poomsae: Kicho, TaeGeuk 1 – 8, Koryo.
  3. Creative Poomsae: Basic form in any shape. Minimum of six steps.
  4. Self-Defense: 4 Creative techniques vs. punch/kick/2 holds.
  5. Combination: creative using blocks, punches, and kicks.
  6. Sparring: multiple rounds of 1v1.
  7. Breaking Techniques: Speed ridge hand / two kick combination both intermediate.
  8. Calisthenics: In one minute: Push up = 30+, Sit up = 30+, Squats = 30+. Plank = 2 min.
  9. Terminology & Knowledge: See Dan Terminology & Knowledge Sheet.
  10. Essay: What is poomse? Handed in as a prerequisite.

Bodan 1st Star to Bodan 2nd Star

  4. Self-Defense: 4 Creative techniques vs. club.
  5. Combination: creative using blocks, punches, kicks, and footwork.
  6. Sparring: multiple rounds of 1v1.
  7. Breaking Techniques: Double knuckle punch / two kick combination intermediate & advanced.
  8. Calisthenics: In one minute: Push up = 30+, Sit up = 30+, Squats = 30+. Plank = 2 min.

  10. Essay: What is breaking? Handed in as a prerequisite.

Bodan 2nd Star to Bodan 3rd Star

  1. Basics: Ability to perform all basic, intermediate and advanced techniques to their level.
  2. Poomsae: Kicho, TaeGeuk 1 – 8, Koryo.
  3. Creative Poomsae: Basic open hand form in any shape. Minimum of eighteen steps.
  4. Self-Defense: 4 Creative techniques vs. knife OR Kids = 1 punch, 1 kick, 1 hold, and 1 club.
  5. Combination: creative using blocks, punches, kicks, footwork, and head movement.
  6. Sparring: multiple rounds of 1v1.
  7. Breaking Techniques: Drop knuckle punch / two kick combination both advanced.
  8. Calisthenics: In one minute: Push up = 30+, Sit up = 30+, Squats = 30+. Plank = 2 min.
