YMCA Back to Class!
만세! Munsay!
We are back to classes this week on the 9th! I am very much looking forward to seeing our YMCA students back at the Allard Center Dojang! We’ve had too many breaks from training this summer.
Anyhoot, this week is a basics week, so be prepared for blocks, punches/strikes, kicks, poomsae, and self-defense!
And for those wondering, 만세 (Munsay) is a Korean cheer, kind of like saying “Victory!” or “Hooray!”
September Testing!
Testing will be the week of the 28th during our normal class times. I will, of course, have more information as we get closer.
It will probably be a small test due to summer vacations and multiple weeks off from the YMCA. But that’s okay! The December test is just around the corner, folks!
So stay focused, train hard, and make yourselves ready.
Happy Chuseok! 추석!
Chuseok is Friday, September 25th!
Chuseok is one of Korea’s biggest and most important holidays. It’s a time when families come together, honor their ancestors, share food, and give thanks for the year’s harvest. The holiday is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, which means the date changes each year.
One of the traditional foods eaten during Chuseok is songpyeon (송편), small half-moon-shaped rice cakes that are usually filled with things like sesame seeds, beans, or chestnuts. There are also traditional games, celebrations, and visits with family.
You may sometimes hear Chuseok called “Korean Thanksgiving,” and while that’s not exactly the same thing, it’s an easy way to understand some of the spirit behind the holiday.
Since we practice a Korean martial art, I think it’s important, and fun, to learn a little about the culture it comes from too!
Happy Chuseok! 즐거운 추석 보내세요!
Good Master, Bad Master.
That’s right! The new episode is out and ready for viewing. I’ll post the link below.
The Corr Thieves, my Ren Faire performance group, have another faire coming up, and we rehearse when Jim and I usually film. So don’t be surprised if we miss some weeks. BUT, we will certainly try to put something up so that doesn’t happen!
